Absentee Ballots

 

If you are registered to vote in Mecklenburg County, you may vote early in the next election by requesting an absentee ballot:

BY MAIL
Write a letter requesting ballots for the next election or for the election year (we can only accept requests for the current election year). Include your full name, Mecklenburg County address, and the address you wish your ballots to be mailed to (if different). Your phone number and birth date are extremely helpful, but not required. Also, if you are registered Unaffiliated, you must declare which party’s Primary (Democrat or Republican) you wish to vote in (Primary only). Sign the request and

IN PERSON
The “In Person” or “Early Voting” absentee process permits a person to appear at the Board of Elections Office or at one of the “One-Stop” or “Early Voting” sites set up by the Board of Elections, starting on the third Thursday prior to an election, but not later than 1:00 pm on the Saturday before Election Day, complete an Absentee Application, receive the ballots and vote. NCGS 163-227.2(b)

NEAR RELATIVE
A near relative (spouse, brother, sister, parent, grandparent, child, grandchild, mother-in-law, father-in-law, daughter-in-law, son-in-law, stepparent, stepchild – NCGS 163-230.1(f)) or verifiable legal guardian may appear at the Board of Elections Office, not later than 5:00 pm on the Tuesday before Election Day and request in writing an Absentee Application and ballots be mailed to that voter. NCGS 163-230.1(a)

SICK or PHYSICAL DISABILITY
A voter in this category may apply or have a near relative or verifiable legal guardian apply in person for an Absentee Application and ballots after 5:00 pm on the Tuesday before the election, but not later than 5:00 pm on the day before the election. NCGS 163-230.1(a1)
